Good morning. I pray you have had a pleasant week. Today we conclude our series on “The Ten Commandments.” We will consider “Do Not Covet.” If you are interested in a few Bible study resources about the Ten Commandments, here are a few I recommend with confidence; Phillip Ryken’s “Written in Stone; The Ten Commandments and Today’s Moral Crisis.” Ryken is the current president of Wheaton College in Chicago, Illinois. I also recommend a book by Puritan author Thomas Watson called “The Ten Commandments.” Because it was written in the 17th century, the language is somewhat archaic, but it is worth muddying through. Finally, I recommend J.I. Packer’s “Keeping the Ten Commandments.” Packer is one of the great theologians of the 20th century. I used all three of these books in my sermon preparation. I want to encourage our church to be readers, and students of God’s Word!
We lost a dear soldier in Christ this week. Our dear brother in Christ Joe Watters passed away during the night Wednesday night going in to Thursday. Let us hold on to the truth that “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” I was honored to be his pastor and friend, and I am thankful that God in His sovereignty saw fit that my life and Joe’s life overlapped for a time. Our evening services for tonight have been dismissed out of respect for Joe’s family. His funeral will be today at the church.
Next week I will begin an eight week series on Matt, 5:3-12- “The Beatitudes.” The series will be called “Blessed Are.” Our Study will begin August 2nd and go to September 20th.
Sunday night August 2nd we will have a church-wide picnic. It is our “Back to School Bash.” It will also be a time for the church to “meet and greet” our Children’s and youth Minister Candidate! Please check out this week’s bulletin to find out more about the picnic fellowship.
If you are the chairperson of a committee please make sure your committee has turned in their financial request to the Stewardship committee. The forms must be turned in by today.
Wednesday night August 5th is our annual “Relay for Life” steak sandwich supper. The meal is a come and go event from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. Please come and support this community-wide ministry.
Soli Deo Gloria,
